The 2008 Ford Edge is a five-seater crossover that has the rugged looks of a sport utility vehicle, but is based on a car platform. This roomy vehicle provides utility and style. Ford adds the top-line Limited (a new trim) to the SE and SEL lineup. Edge is available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. New features include Ford's new Sync hands-free system, which offers voice-activated control of cell phones and digital music players.

All Ford Edge models are powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 engine, which generates 265 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque, and is teamed with a six-speed automatic transmission. When properly equipped, the Ford Edge can tow up to 3,500 pounds.

The Edge has a squared-off design and wears Ford's bold new chrome grille and wheel wells with pronounced flares.  All 2008 Ford Edge models get a revised exterior tailgate handle. The Edge provides seating for five, features white-faced gauges, and has metal accents in higher trim levels. Other available features include heated front seats, power folding rear seatbacks, new 20-inch wheels, and the vista roof, which is a sliding glass sunroof that covers both the front and rear seats.

The Edge earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pick award for protection in front, side and rear impact. All-disc anti-lock brakes are standard. Other standard safety features include seat-mounted side-impact air bags for the front seats, side curtain air bags and Ford's Advance Trac with roll stability control.
